Law in China

Chinese law degrees are taught in Chinese and are mainly chosen by students who intend to work on China-related transactions. English-medium LLM options exist but are narrower.

Why this field

What Law involves, and who it suits

Chinese law degrees are taught in Chinese and are mainly chosen by students who intend to work on China-related transactions. An English-medium LLM exists but is narrower, and the Chinese-taught LLB is the deeper route for those committed to the system. For most international students the value is China-specific: cross-border law, intellectual property, international commercial law. A Chinese law degree alone does not qualify you to practise outside China, so treat it as a China-specialism rather than a portable licence.

Where it leads

What the degree is actually for

Common next steps for graduates of this field in China and at home.

One thing to check before you commit. A Chinese law degree does not qualify you to practise outside China, and the LLB is Chinese-taught (HSK 5). Treat it as a China specialism, not a portable licence, and check recognition in your own jurisdiction before committing.
Questions students actually ask

Straight answers

Yes for the LLM — international and commercial law master's are offered in English or bilingually. The Chinese-taught LLB requires HSK 5 and is for those committed to the Chinese system.
Generally no, without local qualification in your own country. It is best treated as a China specialism for cross-border, IP and trade work rather than a portable licence.
International law, intellectual property and commercial law lead, tied to China's trade and manufacturing base. Match the programme to the China-related work you actually want.
