Medicine & Health in China

The most competitive and most regulated field for international students. English-medium MBBS exists, but seats are limited and clinical exposure varies by hospital network.

Why this field

What Medicine & Health involves, and who it suits

Medicine is the most regulated field for international students in China, and the gap between the brochure and the clinic is wider here than anywhere else. English-medium MBBS exists at a handful of universities, but seats are limited, clinical rotation language varies by hospital, and your home country's medical council decides whether the degree lets you practise — not the Chinese university. Treat the degree as the start of a licensing path rather than a guaranteed ticket. If you are clear about the recognition route in your own country before you enrol, China is a genuinely affordable place to train. If you are not, the cheapest tuition in the world will not help you register back home.

Where it leads

What the degree is actually for

Common next steps for graduates of this field in China and at home.

One thing to check before you commit. Recognition is decided by your home medical council, not by the Chinese university. Some councils require additional exams and supervised practice before you can work. Confirm that path with your own authority before you pay a deposit — it is the single most important due-diligence step for this field.
Questions students actually ask

Straight answers

It depends entirely on your national medical council. Some recognise it directly, others require a licensing exam and supervised clinical practice first. Check your council's list before enrolling, not after.
Yes at the universities that run English-medium MBBS, but clinical rotations may mix in Chinese and hospital staff do not always switch language for one student. Expect to learn medical Chinese to function on the ward.
MBBS tuition runs roughly 25,000–45,000 CNY per year, with living costs from about 1,200 CNY a month in the cheapest cities to over 5,000 in central Shanghai. The degree is six years including internship, so plan for the full stretch.
